Venezuelan Food Crisis

Throughout the month of May, Venezuela has been experiencing a food shortage. According to Slide Share, which is an online newspaper that covers news around the world, Venezuelans are only able to find foods that contribute to poor health and weight gain. While this may not be a big deal to many of us, it is detrimental to Venezuelans because they are not used to eating such things. Before the shortage, people relied on milk, meat, and beans as their source of protein in their daily meals. Now, people are unable to find such items that used to be staples in their kitchens. They are now forced to eat things such as pastas, rice, and other starches. Several people’s health has already been hit hard by the food shortage says Secretary Osio, especially children and the elderly. Many children have had to miss school because they are so malnourished that they are barely able to function properly. Babies are also being affected by the food shortage. Babies rely on milk to aid in their development as well as to satisfy their hunger. Many mothers are mixing together cornstarch and water so that their babies will not be hungry. However, the cornstarch and water mixture is not helping their babies to develop.

The government has stepped in to try and help their suffering nation. They are beginning to promote farmers who have crops that they can sell. People are not able to get very much, but it is a lot more than what they have been receiving during the past month. For that, they are very thankful.

JustFab is Just Perfect For a New Summer Wardrobe

Now that it’s almost summer, I’m amping up my style game using my JustFab VIP membership. That means I get discounts on all full-priced items to help re-stock my closet. And trust me, after clearing out my winter sweaters and last year’s dresses, my closet is ready for a facelift!

I’ve already started working on my summer tan, which means my bronzed legs are dying to make their grand reveal. I’ve got my eye on JustFab’s printed romper for the occasion. It’s flirty and cute, but the long sleeves give it a sophisticated and classy twist. It shows just the right amount of skin to be sexy but not too revealing. Coral has always been one of my favorite colors, and the subtle paisley print gives it a bohemian look that I love for the summer. Coral not your thing? It comes in black as well! Pair it with JustFab’s Rhondia braided wedges for a night out on the town!

But the printed romper isn’t the only piece I’ve been eyeing to add to my closet. JustFab’s collection of loose fitting tops are a great staple to have in any summer wardrobe. Like I said, I’m all about the boho look for this summer. The lace details and crochet enhancements give their tops an interesting vibe that perfectly suit the flowy silhouettes. I love a flowy top with tight-fitting bottoms, and JustFab’s jeggings are the perfect match for their bohemian tops.

And let’s not forget about the amazing accessories on JustFab’s summer line. Light brown faux leather is totally in this year, and JustFab has a variety of styles to suit every taste. I’m personally in to the Louie; it’s simple and classic, but paired with some skinny jeans and one of the flowy boho tops, it’s the perfect companion for an afternoon around town.

Newark is Poised for a Comeback

From downturn to renaissance, is that the fate of that fascinating island city, Newark, NJ? Yes, this casino friendly city was hit hard by the real estate boom that ended in bust as well as the economic meltdown of 2008, but this is a place that’s known for its resilience, and signs are strong that a return and even a renaissance could be in the cards for Newark. In a town that’s known for its casinos, reading what’s in the cards matters.

One of the most interesting and exciting signs to come along of late is the news that Shaq O’Neill is partnering with Wasseem Boraie of Boraie Development, LLC, to launch an upscale housing development called The Beach at South Inlet. This $61 million project was initially proposed back in 2013, but the shakiness of the local economy at the time (two casinos in the area, The Revel and The Showboat closed, and the Trump Taj Mahal was showing signs of extreme financial stress) lead the Casino Redevelopment Agency to step in and stop progress on the development.

Fast forward to 2016, and once again O’Neill and Boraie are showing a strong interest in reviving the planned upscale housing development. The loan on the project is facing an extension, which will allow the CRA to review the plans and the current state of the area. It’s the hope of the two key players, O’Neill and Boraie, that the development will indeed go forward.

The Current Momentum

Boraie recently spoke at the CRE Summit in Newark, and noted that today there are several large projects going on in the city that could be key to a real economic renaissance here. He noted that in the past the city seemed to champion single large developments, but this strategy often lead to disappointment. In his view, having several projects in development at once is the key to success in attracting more money and more economic activity to the area.

From where Boraie sees it, Newark is very much ready for a comeback. If the CRA echoes this view, there could be good news all around.

Avi Weisfogel Launches an Operation Smile GoFundMe Campaign

Avi Weisfogel just launched an Operation Smile GoFundMe campaign for facial deformity treatment in children. Anyone who wants to donate to the cause of providing free surgery for cleft palate and cleft lips now can.

The GoFundMe campaign that Weisfogel set up currently has a fundraising goal of $2,000. The objective of raising this money is to provide the highest level of palate, lip and other facial deformity care. Another goal of this kind of fundraising effort is to help young people feel like they have some hope for their future.

Operation Smile is not a new organization, however. Bill and Kathy Magee first started this non-profit group in 1982. At the time, their main goal was to help Filipino children suffering cleft palate and lip problems. The need for help was recognized all over the globe. Therefore, teams of volunteers branched out to at least 80 countries since Operation Smile’s inception.

Now, Avi Weisfogel has made this organization that reaches out to children in need the beneficiary via GoFundMe. Weisfogel’s reasoning for this decision is because according to him “every child deserves exceptional surgical care.” The way children are treated at a facility also has become a concern. This is another issue addressed via the GoFundMe campaign.

Operation Smile works with local medical professionals, hospitals, governments and other organizations. These facilities have joined forces to identify solutions that will reach as many children as possible. This starts with local training to provide young people with the health care they need.
